Good evening all,
I am rebuilding my 1980 Cagiva RX 250 enduro engine to replace the main bearings.
When we split the engine cases and started to remove the gears we noticed one had a tooth missing. It is described as the gear advance or maybe starter gear? I am looking for a good replacement can anybody help? The part number is 800023590.
I have already had some good information that the SX / SST models do not fit as they are helical gears. The RX one is a straight cut gear.
Many thanks in advance
Jody

Hi Pepe,
Thanks for sharing that link to the Harley / Cagiva engine
Originally I was thinking something along these lines with looking for a Cagiva SX or SST 250 engine but I have since found out their cogs are different
It appears to be quite a specific part for this engine model (RX or MXR).
Without knowing the actual engine model it makes it hard to find out if it would work but I suspect not in this case. I haven't been able to find out if the AMF Harley engines had the same cogs or whether it was changed.
Many Thanks
Jody

Hi Jean-Marie,
Thank you for your efforts
Yes I understand this particular part was changed or updated in later models of the RX and MXR. I understand the earlier models had 30 teeth and then later models from 1981 had 29 teeth. The part number gets updated from 800023590 (1980 parts manual) to 800034305 (1981 supplement parts manual).
It could work but I think I would need to change the gear it works too because of the difference in the number of teeth.
Many Thanks
Jody

you re welcome , I spent a lot of time for your gear , but impossible to find....
on the add 1981 , the idle gear has refence change?
If no , the 29 one should fit.

Good evening Jean-Marie,
Thank you for taking time to try and find that relay cog.
The idle gear has also changed reference for 1981. 800029612 (1980 parts manual) to 800034303 (1981 supplement parts manual).
I think I would the 1981 idle gear to try with the 29 tooth relay gear, so both cogs to make this possibly work.
I did a proper photo and measurements this evening too on my current 30 tooth relay cog.
Many Thanks
Jody
