The SWM with two wheel drive corrected by Helmut Tomascheck
It was in September 1981 that this SWM, corrected by Helmut Tomascheck, appeared at the German trial GP. This one, which in 1980 was already rolling with an Ossa of the same design, planned at the time to market a kit.
The front wheel was driven by a flexible 12 mm in diameter, rotating (at 70 km/h) at 10,000 rpm to limit the torque to be transmitted. Gilles Burgat then tried the machine and found it had amazing grip on slopes.

original photograph, because indeed the resemblance to Harry is disturbing but impossible because he was probably not yet born when the picture was taken ...
In any case apart from the resemblance, a guy who rides in SWM can only be a good guy !
Note the goggles, an accessory that has completely disappeared from the modern equipment of trials riders...
The sponsor on the bib is an important clue as to where the photo was taken:
SIAS SRL SPECIAL STEEL INDUSTRIAL COMPANY is a well-known company in Italy.
Also note the van with a Fantic Motor logo ...
