I have just acquired some more SWM parts. I want to build a 250 (If I can find a good set of cases)
I already have a TF3 175. I was trying to find a 250 motor in it. Now I can build another bike.
So i now have a TF1 & a TF3 frames I can use.
The cases on the 72mm 250 motor I got with the parts is corroded and cannot be saved.

Which frame should I use a TF1 or TF3?

Should I use the TF3 swingarm on the TF1 frame? Does it work?

Would the 38mm leading axle forks and clamps work with the TF1 frame?

Is it possible to use 175 cases with a 250 72mm top end and use the 250 gears?

Hello Noel, i think that the TF3 alloy Swingarm fits on the TF1 frame, i saw it in Italy.

Idon't know for the Fork, and for the cases, i thionk that they are not the same between the both models.

Hope that the specialists will help.

Hi Noel

Ye The swing arm preferably the alloy one will fit the TF1 frame...but you will have to change your rear shocks as you will need about 390mm. (instead of the 410mm)
Front forks (if comes from a proper TF3 will fit the TF1 headstock... but you will loose some steering angle and the extra tube length will have to rise a bit above the top yokes, if not your bike will be too high on the front.

As for 175cc case...the answer is NO, you cannot use these only for 125 or 175cc.

you need to find casings or a full 240/250 engine.

I can see on the pictures that you have as well a TF2 swing arm and other bits.

If the forks comes from a 175 TF3, they should not be 38mm (only 35) but with a 250cc Yes 38 is great. (even if a full TF1 or TF3 in 250 is about 7kg more than a 175cc...but more oommph)

Even if you find an old short stroke 250 engine, its a very much misconception that the 72 bore is better or more power.
Well beside the 5th transfer, a very good RS.GS as only 2 BHP less than a TF3 for example (But have 6 gears, that I love!) :clin:

You will find more easily a short stroke engine for sale.

Good luck into your projects and If I can be of any help, let me know,

Cheers, Philippe.

Thanks Thierry
Yeah, I think I will go the TF3 swingarm on it which ever frame I choose.

Thanks Philippe
I run a set of KTM 38s on my 175, I Will not be going back to the 35s.

The other stuff is a RSGS frame and swingarm. So I have two TF1 frames and a TF3. One of the TF 1s is in very good condition the TF3 not so much.

I like how simple the TF1 is compared to the TF3. but which is a better race bike?

Cheers Noel

I prefer the look of the TF1 , but the TF3 is much more efficient. :clin:
